Caring for Antiques

The light brown antique library desk sits diagonally, happy in the corner of my office. For far too long it sat waiting, buying its time – being used by so many others. Now settled into its almost forever home – an 888 sq. ft. condo. It's perfect in size, near perfect in condition,  beautifully weathered and sturdy in its creaks. The antique library desk was center of attention until last week.

Some young man's grandfather built a natural colored pine chest for his daughter's wedding years ago. With both grandpa and mom passed away now, the pine chest was carelessly posted on Craigslist. Feeling unwanted and unloved at just $80. Why would a pine chest want to stay with such a cheap kid anyway? The antique desk says nothing but a silent $175.

The pine chest is rather snappy with it's heavy lid – just needs some TLC and little time to adjust. The antique library desk sits diagonally happy in the corner of a 9x10 ft room with a castaway pine chest. The chest will warm up and the desk knows it. There's nothing a lifetime of tender, loving, care can't fix. But as for antiques? They don't make 'em like this anymore and they both know it.
